MTN Uganda will also provide reflector jackets and water to support pilgrims on their journey to Namugongo.
KASESE, Uganda: MTN Uganda has today reaffirmed its commitment to supporting faith-based initiatives of national significance through a contribution of UGX 20,000,000 to the Kasese Diocese, the lead organizers of the Catholic celebrations for this year’s Martyrs Day.
The contribution was handed over in Kasese by Andrew Tusubira, MTN Uganda’s Commercial Head for West, to Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira of the Kasese Diocese. The support is intended to aid preparations for the annual pilgrimage to Namugongo, where thousands of faithful will gather on June 3rd to commemorate the Uganda Martyrs.

In addition to the financial contribution, MTN will provide reflector jackets and water to pilgrims, underscoring its commitment to supporting both the spiritual and practical aspects of the journey as pilgrims prepare to set off on May 16th.
To further support the Diocese’s preparations, MTN Uganda has partnered with Kasese Diocese to facilitate a public fundraising campaign through MTN MoMo using code 20308943, registered under the name Kasese Diocese Namugongo pilgrimage. This initiative provides an accessible platform for well-wishers across the country to contribute to the success of this year’s celebrations.
Speaking at the handover, Andrew Tusubira emphasized the importance of faith, unity, and collective participation, drawing from this year’s theme, “Christ is Alive in You and Me” (Galatians 2:19–20):
“At MTN, we are inspired by the message that Christ lives in each of us, calling us to live in faith and service to others. Our contribution today reflects our continued commitment to walk alongside the faithful as they prepare for this deeply significant spiritual journey. We encourage all Ugandans to take part by supporting the Kasese Diocese through the MoMo code 20308943, so that together, we can bring this year’s theme to life through action and shared purpose.”
In his remarks, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira expressed appreciation for the support and called on the faithful to rally behind the preparations:
“We are deeply grateful to MTN Uganda for their generous contribution and continued partnership in supporting the Church and its mission. As we prepare for the pilgrimage, with pilgrims setting off on May 16th, this support will greatly enhance our readiness for the Martyrs Day celebrations. We invite all people of goodwill to join us in this journey by contributing through the MoMo code 20308943.”
This contribution forms part of MTN Uganda’s broader commitment to supporting both Catholic and Anglican Martyrs Day celebrations. The company also intends to extend its support to Uganda Christian University, which will host this year’s Anglican commemorations, further demonstrating MTN’s dedication to fostering unity, faith, and community across the country.
As Uganda prepares to once again gather in remembrance and reflection, MTN Uganda remains committed to enabling meaningful participation and supporting the enduring legacy of faith that defines Martyrs Day.
