KAMPALA — Joint security agencies on Monday intensified operations targeting properties linked to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, with investigators removing several luxury vehicles from her residence in Mutungo-Kigo as part of an ongoing probe into alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering.
Videos circulating on social media and aired by NBS Television showed police low-bed carrier trucks transporting a Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Range Rover vehicles from the lakeside residence under heavy security deployment.
The operation follows earlier raids on Among’s residences in Nakasero and Ntinda conducted by a joint team comprising the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), UPDF personnel and other security agencies. Investigators are reportedly examining financial records, procurement documents and asset ownership linked to the former Speaker.
Reports indicate the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, estimated to be worth billions of shillings, was seized for forensic examination after attracting public scrutiny earlier this year over its acquisition.
Sources close to the investigations say detectives also confiscated electronic gadgets and a mobile phone belonging to Among for forensic analysis as the probe widens to include some of her associates and suspected financial networks.
Security remained heavily deployed around the Kigo property throughout Monday, with access restricted as operatives continued searches inside the residence.
The developments come amid mounting political pressure on Among following her withdrawal from the Speakership race and growing scrutiny over alleged unexplained wealth. Authorities have not yet announced any formal charges against her.
