KAMPALA, Uganda : Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has revealed that security agencies have already recovered large sums of money and property during the ongoing anti-corruption crackdown dubbed “Operation Maliza Ufisadi.”
In a series of posts on X on Tuesday, Muhoozi said the operation had only just begun but had already yielded significant results, with recovered assets expected to be returned to the national treasury.
“‘Operation Maliza Ufisadi’ has just began, already we have retrieved quite a lot of the people’s money and property. Everything will be returned to the Treasury. I will give a partial report soon,” Muhoozi posted.
He also warned government officials to fully cooperate with security agencies involved in the operation, signaling that more arrests and investigations are expected in the coming days.
“The President allowed this Operation to arrest anybody in Uganda except the President and First Lady. Everybody else in this country can be arrested,” Muhoozi added.
The operation has sparked intense debate across the country, with some Ugandans welcoming the renewed push against corruption while others questioned the methods being used by security agencies.
The latest remarks come amid heightened anti-graft investigations targeting several public officials and government offices.
In recent days, reports have emerged of arrests, interrogations and recovery of suspected stolen public funds and property.
Meanwhile, MP and Secretary General of PLu Daudi Kabanda, who has been vocal on corruption issues, hinted at stepping away from active politics after the operation.
“After this Operation, I will retire from active politics to pave the way for others to serve,” Kabanda posted.
Government has yet to release an official statement detailing the total amount of money and property recovered so far under the operation.
