KAMPALA, Uganda — Dr. Lakisa Mercy Faith has pledged her full commitment to shaping Uganda’s young people and securing a brighter future for the country following her appointment as State Minister for Youth and Children’s Affairs.
Dr. Lakisa, who serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Alebtong District in Uganda’s 12th Parliament, expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for entrusting her with the new role.
In a message shared on her social media platforms, Dr. Lakisa said the appointment was both an honor and a call to serve Uganda’s youth and children with dedication.
“With deep honor and profound gratitude, I thank H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for entrusting me with the opportunity to serve Uganda as the Minister of State for Youth and Children’s Affairs,” she posted.
She added that she is fully committed to helping shape young people for the future that Ugandans envision, promising to work closely with stakeholders to address challenges affecting the youth and children across the country.
Dr. Lakisa is a licensed Dental Surgeon and a prominent youth leader who has built her political career around advocacy for education, healthcare improvement, and youth empowerment. Before joining Parliament, she served as the 83rd Vice President of the Students’ Guild at Makerere University and also held leadership responsibilities in the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA).
Throughout her leadership journey, she has championed improved community healthcare services, including the upgrading of local health centers in Alebtong District, as well as initiatives aimed at improving education standards and creating opportunities for young people.
Her appointment has been welcomed by supporters and youth leaders, many of whom view her background in student leadership and community advocacy as a strong foundation for advancing youth-centered policies in government.
