President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has held talks with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, focusing on strengthening efforts to prevent and respond to Ebola outbreaks in the region.
According to the President, Dr. Tedros called on him at State House Entebbe, where the two leaders discussed the ongoing Ebola situation and measures needed to enhance public health preparedness.
President Museveni emphasized the critical role of community awareness, early disease detection, and cross-border collaboration in containing outbreaks and protecting populations from infectious diseases.
He noted that Uganda has significant experience in mobilizing communities to tackle major public health challenges, citing the country’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic as an example of effective community engagement and leadership.
The President said that through science-driven interventions, strong leadership, and continued cooperation with international partners such as the World Health Organization, Uganda can strengthen its capacity to safeguard public health while contributing to regional health security.
