MTN Uganda, in partnership with Entebbe Club, has today launched the MTN Pro-Tee Series, a landmark professional golf initiative aimed at strengthening Uganda’s competitive golf ecosystem and creating a structured pathway for elite golfers to grow their careers.

The launch marks a significant milestone in MTN Uganda’s golf journey. Over the past three years, the company has played a key role in growing amateur and corporate golf through flagship events such as the MTN Monthly Tee and the MTN Grand Tee of Tees. Building on that success, MTN Uganda is now extending its commitment to the sport by investing directly in the professional game.

The MTN Pro-Tee Series will provide Uganda’s top professional golfers with a world-class competitive platform designed to reward consistency, excellence, and long-term performance. The inaugural tournament will feature 40 professionals competing over 72 holes, with players earning points throughout the season in pursuit of the coveted MTN Pro-Tee Order of Merit title.

The series will be contested across multiple events during the year, creating a structured professional circuit that offers increased playing opportunities, meaningful prize money, and a compelling season-long championship race. The initiative reflects MTN Uganda’s commitment to supporting sustainable career pathways for professional golfers while raising the overall standard of the game in Uganda.

Speaking at the launch, Justina Icabala Ziraba, Enterprise Segment Manager at MTN Business, said the initiative demonstrates MTN Uganda’s continued commitment to creating platforms that enable Ugandans to realise their full potential.

“Over the last three years, we have witnessed remarkable growth in golf at Entebbe Club and the vibrant community that has developed around the sport. Through the MTN Pro-Tee Series, we are intentionally extending our support beyond participation and recreation to strengthen the competitive foundation of professional golf in Uganda.

This platform will provide elite golfers with consistent opportunities to compete, earn, and showcase their talent within a structured environment that mirrors international standards,” Icabala said.

She added that the series aligns naturally with MTN Uganda’s ongoing Free Your Fire campaign, which encourages Ugandans to pursue their ambitions boldly and confidently.

“Free Your Swing is our invitation to professional golfers to express themselves fully on the course, compete fearlessly, and unlock new opportunities in their careers. It is a natural extension of Free Your Fire, bringing the same spirit of ambition, confidence, and self-expression into the game of golf,” she added.

Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) Chairman Davis Kato described the initiative as a major boost for professional golf in Uganda.

“The MTN Pro-Tee Series is a game-changer for professional golf in Uganda. As an association, we have worked hard to grow the professional game, increasing our membership from 29 professionals in 2022 to 62 today. What has been missing is a structured platform that provides players with consistent opportunities to compete, earn, and develop.

Through the MTN Pro-Tee Series, MTN Uganda is helping to raise the standard of professional golf by introducing an international-standard competition format, a season-long Order of Merit, and meaningful prize purses that reward performance. This partnership gives our professionals something tangible to strive for and strengthens the pathway for Ugandan golfers to compete successfully on bigger stages,” Kato said.

Beyond competition, the MTN Pro-Tee Series will retain the vibrant atmosphere that has become synonymous with MTN golf experiences. Each professional tournament will culminate in a weekend celebration that brings together professionals, amateurs, corporate golfers, and fans through a unique blend of sport, lifestyle, and entertainment, further broadening the appeal of golf among new audiences.

The official launch of the MTN Pro-Tee Series takes place at Entebbe Club ahead of the inaugural tournament, where Uganda’s leading professionals will compete for the first points of the season and begin their quest to become the first-ever MTN Pro-Tee Series champion.
