The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) has graduated 423 banking and financial services professionals while celebrating a year of remarkable institutional growth, innovation and financial turnaround during its 13th Graduation Ceremony held at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

The graduation ceremony followed the Institute’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the financial year ended 2025 and was held under the theme, “Beyond Graduation: Building Bankers for Leadership and Transformation.” The event brought together members, regulators, industry leaders, development partners, graduates and other stakeholders to reflect on the Institute’s achievements and its contribution to strengthening Uganda’s financial services sector.

Opening the AGM, the Board Chairman, Michael K. Mugabi, commended the Institute for remaining focused on its mandate despite operating in an increasingly dynamic financial environment.

He highlighted several milestones achieved during the year, including the Institute’s rebranding under the new brand promise, “Learn, Transform, Lead,” the training of 4,062 professionals, the launch of the Industry Competence Framework Project, development of the Green Finance Curriculum, and the inaugural Research Conference and Research Agenda implemented in partnership with Makerere University.

Mugabi also noted the successful launch of the inaugural Bankers’ Awards, which attracted more than 322 industry leaders, and praised the Institute’s improved financial performance. He said UIBFS registered a 104.28 percent increase in profit after tax, posting a profit of UGX 8.4 million compared to a loss of UGX 195 million recorded in 2024.

UIBFS Chief Executive Officer Goretti Masadde thanked members, regulators, development partners and other stakeholders for their continued support, describing 2025 as a defining year marked by innovation, strategic partnerships, research and professional development.

She said the Institute remains committed to producing competent financial sector professionals capable of driving transformation and supporting Uganda’s economic growth.

The graduation ceremony saw 423 professionals awarded Certificates and Diplomas in various banking and financial disciplines. The qualifications were conferred on behalf of the Patron of UIBFS, the Governor of the Bank of Uganda, by the Director of Commercial Banking, Hannington Wasswa.

The graduates completed programmes including Chartered Banker Level One (Certified Professional Banker), Chartered Banker Level Two (Executive Banker), Certified Credit Management, Diploma in Microfinance, Microfinance Apprenticeship Programme, Foundation Certification in Banking and Financial Services, Compliance, Risk Management, Sustainable Finance, Trade Finance, SACCO Management, ACI Dealing, Anti-Money Laundering, Credit and Lending, and Credit Risk and Non-Performing Loans Management.

The Institute also highlighted its academic partnerships with Makerere University and Mountains of the Moon University through which it offers a Master of Arts in Financial Services and a Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Risk Management and Finance respectively.

Addressing the graduates, Institute leaders urged them to continue pursuing lifelong learning, uphold integrity and professionalism, and use the knowledge acquired to transform Uganda’s banking and financial services industry.

UIBFS remains Uganda’s leading provider of banking and financial services training, promoting professionalism, innovation and financial inclusion through market-driven training, research and consultancy services.
