KANUNGU — Police in Kanungu District have arrested four suspects in connection with aggravated robbery and attempted murder following a violent attack in Nyakabingo Town Council.
The suspects have been identified as Richard Kiseka, 40; Kakule Sibandera, 23; Ian Mukonyezi, 17; and Frank Ashanjaho, 18.
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime, the suspects allegedly raided a home at Rugarambiro Cell, Eastern Ward, Nyakabingo Town Council, while armed with an AK-47 rifle and machetes.
The assailants are accused of stealing two motor vehicles, an unspecified amount of cash, laptops, and two mobile phones during the attack, which occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Police responded swiftly to the incident, intercepting the suspects and recovering the stolen vehicles. The recovered vehicles include a Toyota Fielder (Registration No. UBM 425G) and a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Pickup (Registration No. UA 789EM).
The four suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
SP Tumushime urged residents of Kanungu District to remain calm, assuring them that police are committed to safeguarding lives and property.
