Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a fatal stabbing incident at BMK Plaza that left a male hawker dead following a violent confrontation with a security guard.
The incident occurred on 10th July 2026 at around 4:30pm on the ground floor of the city building.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Luke Owoyesigyire said preliminary findings indicate that the confrontation began after the security guard asked the hawker to leave the premises.
“The altercation turned violent, during which the security guard allegedly stabbed the hawker in the chest. The victim collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene,” Owoyesigyire said.
The suspect, identified as Ian Mugisha, a security guard attached to Security 2000, was arrested shortly after the incident. Police recovered the suspected murder weapon and are continuing with inquiries to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
The deceased, whose identity has not yet been established, was taken to the KCCA City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination as detectives work to gather more information about the case.
Police said further details will be released as investigations progress.
