The death toll from the tragic King David Junior School bus crash at Kaserem along the Kapchorwa–Mbale Road has risen to 24 after three more pupils succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment, according to the Uganda Police Force.
Police said that as of Friday evening, 24 fatalities had been confirmed. Of these, 18 bodies have been positively identified, while three unidentified bodies are at Kapchorwa Hospital and another three are at Mbale Hospital awaiting identification.
Authorities also confirmed that 23 victims remain admitted at Kapchorwa Hospital, where they are receiving medical care. Meanwhile, all surviving pupils who did not require hospitalization have safely returned to Kampala aboard a Gateway Bus.
Police said efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims and support the affected families as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
