Police in Nagalama are investigating a suspected cattle theft after residents intercepted a vehicle transporting two cows in the early hours of Sunday, prompting the occupants to abandon the vehicle and flee.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident happened at about 4 a.m. on July 20, 2026 in Nkoko Village, Kakukulu Parish, Kasawo Sub-county, Mukono District. Residents became suspicious of a grey Toyota Noah, registration number UA 361AW, which was carrying two female cows believed to have been stolen.
Police said the occupants abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot after it was intercepted by residents, leaving behind both the animals and the vehicle. In the commotion, the abandoned vehicle was damaged by residents before officers arrived at the scene.
“The two cows and the motor vehicle, registration number UA 361AW, are currently being held by police as exhibits. Preliminary information suggests the cows may have been stolen from Kayunga District, and efforts are underway to trace the rightful owners while investigations to identify and arrest the suspects continue,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Rachael Kawala said.
Police are urged anyone who may have lost cattle matching the description to report to Nagalama Police Station as investigations continue.
