MTN Uganda has today extended its nationwide Y’ello Storm campaign to Northern Uganda, combining customer engagement activities with a donation of essential supplies to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital as the technology company seeks to deepen its community footprint beyond connectivity services.

The company handed over mattresses, protective covers and mosquito nets to the hospital to support patients in the maternity and casualty wards, targeting one of the region’s busiest healthcare institutions that serves as a referral centre for communities across the Acholi sub-region and neighbouring districts as well as South Sudan, Democratic Reublic of Congo, Eritrea and Kenya.

The intervention comes as MTN Uganda expands the Y’ello Storm campaign, a customer engagement initiative under its Free Your Fire brand platform, which has already covered Arua, Masaka, Soroti and Mubende.

The campaign is designed to take MTN teams closer to customers through direct interactions, service support and demonstrations of digital solutions, while also identifying opportunities to contribute to communities where the company operates.

“Y’ello Storm is about creating meaningful connections with our customers and communities. It is not only about showcasing our products and services, but also understanding what matters most to the people we serve,” MTN’s Regional Business Manager for the northern Uganda, Philip Odoi, said during the handover ceremony.

“Today, our focus is Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, an institution that provides critical healthcare services to thousands of people across Northern Uganda. Supporting this facility is part of our commitment to ensuring that our presence creates a positive impact beyond connectivity.”

Gulu Regional Referral Hospital is among the most important healthcare facilities in Northern Uganda, handling thousands of expectant mothers annually and conducting over 500 deliveries monthly.

The hospital also provides emergency services, including treatment for road traffic accident victims, with daily admissions placing pressure on its infrastructure and resources.

Walter Uriek-Wun, the Principal Assistant Secretary at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital said the partnership would help improve patient experience at a facility that serves a large catchment area.

“Gulu Regional Referral Hospital receives patients from across Northern Uganda, including mothers seeking maternity care and emergency cases requiring immediate attention. Improving the environment where patients receive care contributes to better outcomes and dignity for those we serve,” he said.

“We appreciate MTN Uganda for recognising the role this hospital plays in the region. This support will complement our efforts to provide a better experience for patients and support our healthcare teams.”

The Gulu activities are part of a wider Y’ello Storm rollout that has seen MTN engage customers through Telco and MoMo Clinics across several towns.

In Gulu, customers accessed services including digital and financial literacy support, health care support through a health camp and telecom devices support. As part of the Gulu activities, the company will commission a new network site at Layibi 3, strengthening connectivity in the region.

The company will also continue customer engagements tomorrow in Paicho and Awach before concluding the Gulu leg of the campaign with a community celebration featuring customer rewards, product demonstrations and entertainment.

MTN Uganda says its broader ambition is to ensure that more Ugandans benefit from digital services, financial inclusion and opportunities created by technology.

“Connectivity is about more than networks. It is about connecting people to opportunities, services and solutions that improve their lives,” Odoi said.

The Y’ello Storm campaign reflects the company’s effort to combine commercial engagement with social impact as Uganda continues its transition towards a more digitally connected economy..
