MASAKA – The Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, has inspected the ongoing construction of the Masaka–Kyotera–Mutukula Road project to assess progress and ensure the works are being executed in accordance with approved engineering standards, work plans and contractual timelines.

The inspection took the minister to various sections of the road, where he interacted with supervising engineers and the contractor to review the pace of construction and assess the quality of ongoing works.According to the Ministry of Works and Transport, the visit is aimed at ensuring the project remains on schedule while maintaining the required engineering specifications.

“The inspection includes engagements with the supervising engineers and the contractor to review the pace of work, address implementation challenges and emphasize the timely delivery of a high-quality road,” the ministry said.

During the inspection, Byamukama stressed the importance of adhering to approved designs and contractual obligations to guarantee value for money and deliver a durable road that will serve the country for many years.

The Masaka–Kyotera–Mutukula Road is one of Uganda’s key transport corridors, linking the country to Tanzania through the Mutukula border. It is a vital route for regional trade and the movement of people and goods within the East African Community.

Once completed, the upgraded highway is expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs, enhance road safety, and support economic growth by facilitating cross-border trade.

The Ministry of Works and Transport says it will continue conducting regular inspections on major infrastructure projects across the country to ensure contractors comply with engineering standards and contractual requirements, while delivering quality roads within the agreed timelines.
