RUBIRIZI, Uganda — A Tanzanian woman who says she left her home while battling mental health challenges has been found in Nyakasharu, Rubirizi District, and is appealing for help to reunite with her family.
The woman, identified as Mendi Elioner, says she is from Bwanga Village in Chato District, Tanzania.
According to her account, she left Tanzania while experiencing mental health difficulties and wandered from place to place before eventually crossing into Uganda.
Although she has not fully recovered and cannot remember the exact year she left home, Mendi is able to communicate in Kiswahili and recalls key details about her family.
She says she has two children, Zabron and Nasibu, whose father is Baraka Josepheti.
Now staying in Nyakasharu, Mendi says her greatest wish is to see her children and other relatives again.
Those caring for her say she is going through an emotionally difficult period and is eager to return home.
Local well-wishers are appealing to the relevant authorities in both Uganda and Tanzania to support efforts to trace her family and facilitate her safe return.
They say assistance is needed to complete the necessary police clearance procedures in Uganda and coordinate with the Tanzania Police to escort her back home and reunite her with her loved ones.
