MTN Uganda has  released its Sustainability Report for the year ended 31 December 2025, reaffirming its commitment to transparent reporting, responsible business practices and sustainable value creation for customers, shareholders and Ugandan society.

The report, prepared in line with global sustainability reporting developments, marks MTN Uganda’s first alignment with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Disclosure Standards — IFRS S1 on General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information and IFRS S2 on Climate-related Disclosures.

The report was independently assured by Ernst & Young (EY) under the International Standard on Assurance Engagement (ISAE 3000), providing stakeholders with confidence in the credibility, transparency and reliability of the disclosures.

MTN Board Chairman Charles Mbire speaks during the launch of sustainability report in Kampala

Speaking at the launch, MTN Uganda Board Chairman Charles Mbire said the report demonstrates the company’s commitment to strong governance, accountability and creating sustainable value beyond financial performance.

“Strong governance is the foundation of sustainable growth. Through enhanced oversight, transparent reporting and alignment with globally recognised sustainability standards, we continue to ensure that MTN Uganda creates long-term value for our shareholders, customers and the communities we serve,” Mbire said.

The report highlights MTN Uganda’s role as a key contributor to Uganda’s digital economy, with the company connecting 24.2 million subscribers and expanding access to digital services through its nationwide network infrastructure.

By the end of 2025, MTN Uganda’s network had achieved 88.6% 4G population coverage and deployed 27,037 kilometres of fibre infrastructure, supporting increased access to high-speed connectivity.

MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge said sustainability remains central to the company’s ambition of becoming a digitally unstoppable organisation while delivering shared prosperity.

MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge speaks during the launch of MTN sustainability report in Kampala.

“At MTN Uganda, we believe that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life. Sustainability is not separate from our business strategy; it is embedded in how we innovate, invest and create meaningful impact. Through our Ambition 2030 strategy, we are building a digitally inclusive future while addressing environmental and social priorities that matter to Uganda’s development,” Mulinge said.

The report highlights the company’s contribution to Uganda’s economy, including Shs 1.6 trillion in tax contributions and Shs 15.32 trillion in GDP contribution between 2022 and 2024.

It also shows that MTN Uganda created Shs 34.9 trillion in true value beyond reported profits through its wider economic, social and environmental impact.

In financial inclusion, MTN Uganda’s fintech firm Mobile Money Uganda Ltd continued to expand access to digital financial services, facilitating Shs 195.5 trillion in transaction value and supporting 14.7 million active wallets, enabling more Ugandans to participate in the formal digital economy.

The company also reported progress in its climate action agenda, reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 45% against its 2021 baseline and reaffirming its ambition to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040.

MTN Foundation continued to support communities across Uganda, with Shs 5.1 billion invested in initiatives focused on education, health, digital inclusion and community development.

Chief Guest Paul Bwiso, Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Securities Exchange, commended MTN Uganda’s sustainability reporting journey, noting the importance of transparency and responsible corporate citizenship in strengthening investor confidence.

“Companies that embrace robust sustainability reporting contribute to stronger capital markets and build trust among investors and stakeholders. Transparency, accountability and responsible business practices are critical pillars for sustainable economic growth,” Bwiso said.

The sustainability report reflects MTN Uganda’s broader commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, guided by its purpose of enabling a digitally connected Uganda while creating lasting value for all stakeholders.
