CNOOC Uganda Limited (CUL)  joined by the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), Total Energies EP Uganda (TEPU), EACOP Ltd, Government institutions, local leaders and host communities in commemorating the 2026 Joint Oil and Gas Sector World Environment Day in Kikuube District.

Held under the theme “Answering the Climate Call: Driving Responsible Resource Development,” the annual commemoration reaffirmed the sector’s collective commitment to environmental protection, climate resilience and the sustainable development of Uganda’s petroleum resources.

The event featured a joint tree planting exercise, the commissioning of a solar power system at Nsozi Health Centre III in Kyangwali Sub- County, and a community clean-up campaign, reflecting the sector’s shared responsibility to conserve the environment while creating lasting value for host communities.

Mr. Andrew Otuba, speaking on behalf of the Vice President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, Mr. Wang Jufeng reaffirmed the company’s commitment to integrating environmental sustainability into all aspects of its operations. “At CNOOC Uganda Limited, environmental stewardship is a fundamental principle that guides our operations. As we advance the Kingfisher Development Area towards First Oil, we remain committed to responsible resource development through environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, efficient resource utilization and continuous collaboration with Government, our Joint Venture Partners and host communities.”

As one of the Joint Venture Partners in Uganda’s petroleum sector, CNOOC Uganda Limited continues to implement environmental management measures aimed at minimizing operational impacts, protecting biodiversity, promoting efficient water and waste management, and ensuring compliance with national legislation and international industry standards.

The Company recognizes that addressing climate change requires collective action and continues to embrace technologies and operational practices that support lower emissions, resource efficiency and sustainable development throughout the project lifecycle. In this regard, CNOOC continues to strengthen biodiversity planning and monitoring, promote efficient water use and responsible wastewater management, and improve waste segregation, handling, treatment and disposal practices.

Beyond the Joint Sector World Environment Day activities, CNOOC has also participated in the 2026 Energy Conservation Publicity Week and Low Carbon Day Campaign, the campaign promoted energy-saving practices, environmental awareness, low-carbon operations and employee participation in sustainability initiatives.

CNOOC Uganda Limited has also continued to invest in community development programmes that complement its environmental conservation efforts. These include education initiatives such as the Best Performers Awards and the International Scholarship Programme, improved healthcare through the provision of medical equipment to health facilities in host communities and the annual community medical camp, as well as interventions in safe water, agriculture, capacity building, and livelihood improvement. Collectively, these initiatives contribute to sustainable socio-economic development and enhance the well-being and resilience of project host communities.

The Company further recognises that addressing environmental and climate challenges requires strong collaboration among Government, regulators, Joint Venture Partners, local authorities, communities and other stakeholders. CNOOC remains committed to working collaboratively with its stakeholders to promote responsible development and ensure that the benefits of Uganda’s petroleum resources are achieved alongside environmental resilience.

As Uganda prepares for First Oil, CNOOC Uganda Limited remains committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure that petroleum resources are developed safely, responsibly and sustainably, while contributing to the country’s long-term economic transformation and environmental resilience.
