RUBANDA, Uganda — Drivers and motorcyclists using the Kabale-Kisoro Road have been urged to slow down and exercise extra caution, particularly at sharp bends, after a serious crash in Echuya Forest left one person injured.
The crash occurred on Friday afternoon in Rubanda District and involved a white HOWO Sino truck, registration RAJ 322K/RL 8412, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration UMA 911MF, police said.
According to police, the two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when the truck, reportedly negotiating a sharp corner, collided with the motorcycle.
The impact badly damaged the motorcycle and left its rider seriously injured. The rider’s identity had not been established by the time of the police report.
Traffic Police in Rubanda responded to the scene and took the injured rider to hospital for treatment.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime urged motorists and other road users to remain vigilant, obey traffic signs and observe recommended speed limits, especially when approaching bends and other hazardous sections of the road.
He also warned drivers undertaking long journeys against driving while fatigued, urging them to get adequate rest before setting off.
“Drivers who drive long routes ought to get enough rest so that they can drive while sober,” Tumushime said.
Police continue to call for greater caution on the Kabale-Kisoro Road, where sharp corners and other challenging sections require motorists to reduce speed and maintain full control of their vehicles.
