The 4th edition of the Busoga Prayer Week will run from September 21 to 27, 2026, bringing together different religious denominations to pray for the development and transformation of Busoga.
The preparations were announced on Wednesday in Kampala by Anthony Mula, Private Secretary in the Office of the Vice President and Coordinator of the Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD).
This year’s Prayer Week will be held under the theme “Let Us Rise Up and Build Busoga,” drawn from Nehemiah 2:18.
Mula said the theme is a call to the people of Busoga, leaders, development partners and friends of the region to work together to strengthen the region’s social and economic development.
He said the Busoga Consortium for Development believes that prosperity is driven by three key pillars—God, leadership and the economy/business, with God providing the spiritual foundation for the other two.
According to Mula, the Prayer Week will also demonstrate unity among different faiths, with Anglicans, Catholics, Muslims, Pentecostals, Seventh-Day Adventists and Orthodox Christians each taking part in the programme.
The week will officially open in Kampala on Monday, September 21, with a special service at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, starting at 5pm.
The programme will then move to Busoga, with different denominations leading prayers at designated venues.
On Tuesday, September 22, Anglican prayers will be held at Bugembe Cathedral in Jinja, while Catholic prayers will take place on Wednesday, September 23, at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Jinja.
Orthodox prayers are scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at the Orthodox Diocese of Jinja.
On Friday, September 25, Muslim prayers will be held at Masjid Jamia in Mayuge District at noon, followed by Pentecostal prayers at Bethel Worship Centre in Mayuge in the evening.
The SDA regional prayers will take place on Saturday, September 26, at Jinja SDA Central Church, Bukaleba Crescent at Milo Mbiri.
The week will climax on Sunday, September 27, with the main regional prayer gathering at Mayuge District Headquarters, where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the chief guest.
Mula called upon people from Busoga, corporate partners, civil society, political leaders across different parties and friends of the region living abroad to participate in the Prayer Week.
