Wakiso — Quick action by boda boda riders in Wakiso has led to the recovery of a motorcycle allegedly stolen from outside its owner’s home and the arrest of one of two suspects accused of trying to dismantle it.
The motorcycle, registration number UFY 693J, a Haojue, was reported stolen in the early hours of Friday, September 18, from Kisimbiri Central Cell in Wakiso Town Council.
Police said the owner had parked it outside his house at about 4am before briefly going indoors, only to return about 20 minutes later and find it missing.
“Police commend the boda boda riders for their swift response and cooperation, and urge members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
According to police, the riders immediately organised a search after being alerted about the theft. Their efforts paid off when they later encountered two men in a corridor allegedly attempting to dismantle the motorcycle.
The two suspects reportedly fled, abandoning the motorcycle. The riders managed to apprehend one of them, identified by police as Molly Cyrus, 27, before responding police officers arrived and rescued him from a mob.
Cyrus is currently detained at Wakiso Police Station as investigations continue. Police said preliminary inquiries indicate that he and an accomplice, identified only as Asaad, allegedly stole the motorcycle and were attempting to change its appearance before selling it.
The recovered motorcycle has been taken to Wakiso Police Station, where it remains parked as detectives pursue further inquiries. The scene was also examined and documented by the Division Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) team.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing and that efforts are being made to establish the whereabouts of the second suspect.
The case comes amid continued calls for vigilance among motorcycle owners and boda boda operators, with police urging members of the public to promptly report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
