Bundibugyo District Engineer Muhindo Bithi Robert has been charged before the Anti-Corruption Court over alleged financial loss arising from the collapse of a bridge constructed at a cost of Shs115 million.
Muhindo was arraigned on Thursday by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. He was remanded until September 25, 2026.
Prosecution alleges that in 2024, while serving as Bundibugyo District Engineer, Muhindo, together with others still at large, failed to conduct a soil-bearing capacity test before designing a bridge along the Tokwe–Kanyamwirima–Hakitara Road in Bundibugyo District.
The omission is alleged to have contravened the General Specifications for Road and Bridge Works, particularly Series 6000 on structures.
The investigators further allege that the failure to conduct the test contributed to the collapse of the bridge, which had been constructed at a cost of Shs115 million, causing financial loss to the Government.
The arrest and arraignment followed the continued “Expose the Corrupt” National Campaign spearheaded by the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, aimed at strengthening accountability and addressing corruption in local governments.
