With schools now back in session, many Ugandan families are still meeting the costs that come with the start of a new school term. To help ease some of these expenses, MTN MoMo is giving customers 20% off their back-to-school shopping when they pay with the MoMo App at selected supermarkets.
The offer is available at Capital Shoppers, Shopwise, Fraine Supermarket and Cynabel Supermarket from September 15 to 30, 2026, giving families an opportunity to save on school-related purchases as they settle into the new term.
For Mary Muyama, a resident of Ntinda, this term’s back to school shopping for her two children came with an instant cashback after she paid using the MoMo App.
“I was surprised and happy to receive 30,000 shillings instantly after paying with the MoMo App at Fraine Supermarket. I was doing my school-term shopping, so getting money back immediately was a good saving. The process was simple and convenient, and it made me appreciate the value of paying with the MoMo App.” Muyama said.
This promotion is part of MTN MoMo’s Term 3 “Win School Fees for a Year and More” campaign, which is designed to support parents with the financial demands of the school term. Parents who pay school fees through the MoMo App or by dialing 165*8*0# stand a chance to win school fees for a full year, worth up to UGX 6 million, while eligible customers can also access school fees financing for up to four children. The digital payment option also gives parents a convenient way to make payments and maintain a clear record of their school fees transactions.
Speaking about the campaign, Keith Tukei, Chief Commercial Officer, MTN MoMo Uganda, said the initiative reflects the company’s focus on creating practical value for customers beyond payments.
“Education is one of the biggest priorities for families, and the financial demands of a new school term go beyond school fees. Through our partnerships with retailers, we are using the convenience of digital payments to help families save on some of these everyday expenses. We want customers to see MoMo not simply as a way to make payments, but as a platform that creates greater value around the things that matter to them,” Tukei said.
Tukei further added that the campaign is designed to address the different financial needs parents face during the school term.
The campaign also extends benefits to schools. MTN MoMo recently handed over a second school van to Jinja School of Nursing & Midwifery, following the first van awarded to Lucky Kids Academy in Bweyogerere. Schools that accept school fees through MoMo stand a chance to benefit from the school van component of the campaign.
The 20% shopping discount is part of MTN MoMo’s broader effort to create value through partnerships across the education and financial services ecosystem.
Customers can enjoy the 20% discount by paying with the MoMo App at Capital Shoppers, Shopwise, Fraine Supermarket and Cynabel Supermarket until the end of September 2026.
“This offer provides families with another practical way to manage beginning of term expenses while highlighting the growing role of digital payments in everyday life,” said Tukei.
