Police in Rubanda District are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man who was found dead inside an abandoned house in Hamurwa Town Council, according to a police statement issued on September 27, 2026.
Police identified the deceased as Dennis Mujuni, also known as Sadam, a resident of Hamurwa Village in Hamurwa Ward, Hamurwa Town Council.
In the statement, police said Mujuni had on September 18 allegedly told his elder brother that he was being insulted and abused by some family members, including his mother, over allegations that he had sold his goat and spent the money alone.
“Kigezi Regional Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police spokesperson for the region, Nelson Tumushime, said in the statement, adding that Mujuni had allegedly threatened to take his own life if the family members continued embarrassing him.
Police said Mujuni was last seen on September 24 walking from his home towards Hamurwa Town Council.
According to the police statement, Mujuni was discovered dead on September 26 at about 4pm inside an old abandoned house located approximately 100 metres from his home. The matter was subsequently reported to police for investigation.
Tumushime urged members of the public to take such threats seriously and encourage people facing personal or family difficulties to seek appropriate support.
“We appeal to the public to always seek counselling and share problems with local leaders, family members and professional counsellors instead of resorting to taking one’s life,” Tumushime said.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mujuni’s death are continuing.
