The NRM 1st National Vice Chairman, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, today flagged off the second round of the digitisation exercise of the party membership register in 16 data centres spread across the country. The launch took place at the party headquarters at plot 10 Kyadondo Road, Nakasero.

The exercise follows last month’s successful update and registration of the party members in all 72,000 villages across the country.

The flag-off activity featured other members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), including Gidudu Mafabi (Elders’ League), Lydia Wanyoto (Women’s League), James Tweheyo (Workers’ League), Gabriel Kato (PWDs), and Gaddafi Nassuru (Youth League).

Vice Chairman Hajji Kigongo appealed to the responsible teams to ensure a credible exercise in all the centres. He cautioned the teams against interfering in matters not related to their mandated roles, like soliciting money from politicians to make irregular entries. “The party will bank on your work to ensure a clean and transparent process,” he said.

The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, said the dispatched teams are required to commit even longer hours to deliver a credible exercise.

“I implore you to take this exercise very seriously. It requires due diligence to ensure only eligible members are entered,” Todwong said. He also urged the teams to produce a clean register to avoid any challenges during internal elections.

“It is through the party register that the party can elect a flag bearer for all elective positions. We therefore have to ensure that we get a clean party register to avoid challenges during the party primaries.”. Todwong noted.

In her remarks, Amb. Barbara Nekesa, the NRM National Treasurer, called for dedication by all the teams and urged them to at all times keep at their duty stations until the exercise is complete, adding that a reliable register will deliver a new crop of party leaders.

“Let everyone stick to their duty roles. That is the only way we shall ensure a clean and reliable register that will benefit all party members,” Nekesa said.

The Director of Finance and Administration, Hajjat Medina Naham, reiterated that the party register will be very important in delivering free and fair internal elections ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“An updated register will save us from the chaos and bickering of party members during our primaries, which previously were witnessed in some isolated areas,” Hajjat Medina said.

The activity was also graced by officials of the top management at the NRM Secretariat, including the Deputy Secretary General Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi, Deputy National Treasurer Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, Electoral Commission Vice Chairperson Hon. Arimpa Kigyagi, Directors Hon. Emmanuel Dombo (Communications) Maj. (Rtd) Okwir Rabwoni (Youth and Institutions), the NRM EC commissioner Hon. Alisemera Jane, and Counsel Enoch Barata, the director for legal affairs.

The secretariat leadership used the same platform to welcome a former opposition activist in the West Nile, Mr. Baiga Ronald Kanawara, into the NRM party.
