400 Residents in Gomba district recieved land Certificates

Four hundred residents in Gomba district have recieved land Certificates of occupancy thanks to the Government of Uganda in collaboration with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GlZ) and European Union

The initiative aimed at improving access to land as a precondition for poverty and hunger reduction especially for women and other marginalized groups in Central Uganda.

The project which is in the second phase also aims to restore the depraved relationship between the landlords and tenants (Bibanja) on private Mailo land and has been concetrating in Mubende, Kassanda, Mityana, Butambala, Kiboga and Gomba districts, mapping bibanja and ascertaining tenancy rights.

A certificate of Occupancy is a certificate to Prosperity. In Gomba we handed out titles to hundreds of bibanja owners. Breaking through to real wealth starts now. The project is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with a budget of € 4.4 Million.

During the handover ceremony, Minister for lands, Judith Nabakooba said that  tenants who receive certificates of occupancy can now use their certificates as collateral to secure loans,engage in practical activities on the land without interruptions from the landlords.
