KOLOLO– Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has given a green light to the family of Businessman, Sudhir Ruparelia to proceed with the crematorium of the body of their fallen son, Rajiv Ruparelia.
Ms Minsa Kabanda the Minister of Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs who was among the mourner told journalists on Monday evening .
She also revealed that the body of the deceased is currently being kept at the city Mortuary, in Mulago. “We have given them permission to proceed. It is a sad moment for not only the family but also Uganda as a whole, ” Ms Kabanda said.
According to the family , the crematorium of Rajiv’s body will take place on Tuesday May 6, 2025 , at the Hindu Crematorium in Lugogo Kampala staring at 2:30pm.
Sources close to the family of Ruparelia said the final send off of Rajiv will begin with a procession that will see mourners and family members match from the family home in Kololo to the burial grounds in Lugogo, Nakawa Division.
Rajiv 35, died in wee hours of Saturday in a blazing car crash hours before he was to serve as one of the seven groomsmen at a high profile wedding of his close friend. This was was after the car he was driving allegedly hit a barricade at junction of a flyover in Busabala Wakiso District before it was set ablaze.
Police is currently investigating the circumstance under which the youthful entrepreneur perished.
The death of a youthful city entrepreneur , Rajiv Ruparelia in a Saturday morning motor accident, continues to evoke emotions of some mourners who partly blame the tragic incident, to alleged failure by contractors to respect safety measures.
Speaking to journalists at a vigil, Mr Salim Uhuru, Kampala Central Division Mayor wondered why contractors go on with construction works without signages.
Ms Beti Kamya, the Inspector General of Government on Sunday evening, also expressed the same concern, saying the death of Rajiv should be a wakeup call.
” It is a clear message to people constructing roads that their responsibility should not stop at constructing roads but make space safe.How can we have barricades in the dark without reflectors. This is what everyone is talking about,” she said.
