Mzee Temitewo Ssemakula 63 years a resident of Muyenje village in Kiboga District says for Many years he has been spending at least UGX 40,000 everyday on accessing water for both his animals and domestic use.
The long distance, close to 2KM to the water pond led him into hiring young energetic boys to support him, which resulted in additional transport costs for the elderly man.
He, however, notes that despite spending a lot of money, the water was contaminated for it was used both as a feeding point for animals and water access point for domestic use.
He says the situation also forced him to dig up two small ponds at home where he would harvest water when it rains.
However, his turn around point came in 2023 when with the introduction of tank-tapped under the Water for Dairy Business project, an initiative of Heifer International with funding from Aqua for All.
He says that with this project in place, he spends as little as 5000 ugshs to access water for his animals and domestic use.
“The most important part of this project is that it brought water close to our homesteads. Fetching water is just 5 minutes away ” he explains
The Project;
Heifer International (HPI) with funding support from Aqua for All, is implementing the Water for Dairy Business (W4DB) Project at Dwaniro Dairy Cooperative in Kiboga District in Uganda since 2022.

The solar system pumped water is distributed to Muyenje and Dwaniro communities in Kiboga district, and is accessed by communities, schools and hospitals in the area.
This project has ensured access to safe and clean water for over 2000 community farming and non- farming members, which fits into Heifer International’s goal of supporting farming families to have an improved livelihood.
