To enhance accessibility for Ugandans and bring services closer to the community, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has embarked on mobile outreach initiatives across the country.

In a recent announcement on NIRA’s official X page, previously known as Twitter, the organization revealed plans for a 53-day outreach program.

“There have been calls for us to work throughout weekends, but our response has been more firm and solemn, by organizing a 53 days mobile outreaches nationwide. If you don’t come to us, we shall come to you. A NIN carries lots of valuable information like parentage; giving the holder a complete sense of belonging to a particular family, and be part of the inheritance,” read the post.

This initiative is set to conclude on November 23, 2024.

NIRA emphasized that this effort aligns with the Registration of Persons Act Cap 332, which requires NIRA to ensure that all citizens are registered.

They encouraged the public to take advantage of these outreach opportunities to register or access their services.

Residents have been advised to reach out to their local LC 1 chairpersons or visit the nearest NIRA office for specific locations of the mobile teams in their areas.

The outreach is particularly focused on students and other individuals who have not yet registered. Osbon Mushabe, NIRA’s Manager for Public Relations and Corporate Affairs, stated that they are extending services down to the sub-county level.

#NIRAOutreaches: “For 53 days we shall be incredibly combing parishes, villages, wards to make it easier for citizens to register for their NINs as well as a wide range of our registration services. Whether in hospital, school, place of worship, church, trade fairs we shall be present with the mobile registration units”.
