EDUCATION : The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Church of Uganda, Bishop Moses Banja, has urged Christians and well-wishers of Sam Iga Memorial College, Maganjo, to support their fundraising drive aimed at raising UGX 3.8 billion for the construction of a modern classroom block to reduce congestion.
Bishop Banja was represented by the Bishop Emeritus of Mukono Diocese, Bishop William James Sebagala, during the college’s fundraising ceremony held on 21 November 2025, where the institution sought to raise UGX 3.8 billion for the construction of a multipurpose classroom complex at the Maganjo-based college.
Banja, who made a personal donation of UGX 2 million towards the project, urged all old students, friends, and supporters of such initiatives to contribute towards improving the college’s learning environment.
He also challenged parents to take care of their children during the long festive holiday and to engage them in impactful programs.
The parish priest of St. Apollo Maganjo Church of Uganda, who also serves as the college chaplain, Rev. Yusuf Akiriza Lukwago, said well-wishers need to come forward and support the project by helping to raise the initial UGX 800 million required for the foundation stone under Phase 1.
The college headteacher, Kiberu Stanley, commended all those who made contributions, including Bishop Moses Banja, Maganjo Grain Millers Ltd, Kitende SS, Maganjo UMEA Primary School, Sam Iga Memorial College staff and students, among others, for their generosity.
Kiberu said over UGX 20 million was raised and urged those willing to contribute to send their donations via MoMo number 85540767, so that construction works can begin next month.
