The Kawempe North by-election is set for March 13, 2025, following the unfortunate passing of the area’s MP, Muhamma Ssegirinya, on January 9, 2025.

Justice Simon Byabakama, the Chief of the Electoral Commission, said that officials will be recruited and the Voters’ Register will be displayed from January 31 to February 1, 2025.

The list of appointed officials will be accessible at the Office of the Returning Officer in Kampala and at the EC offices in Kawempe Division.

This information was shared during a stakeholders meeting held at Tick Hotel in Kawempe.

The preliminary schedule indicates that the Voters’ Register will be available for viewing at polling stations in Kawempe North from February 10 to February 19.

Candidate nominations are set to occur at the Office of the Returning Officer on February 26 and 27, 2025.

Once candidates are confirmed, they will begin their campaigns on February 28, leading up to March 11, 2025.

Furthermore, Voting Location Slips (VLS) will be distributed in the wards from February 28 to March 13, 2025.

Byabakama also mentioned that training for polling day officials, tally clerks, and political party agents, along with the distribution of appointment letters, is planned for March 10-11.
