The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has called on the National Electoral Commission (EC) to urgently provide the party with a copy of the Special Interest Groups (SIG) register, as required by law.

This comes as the part EC nominating youth, elders, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to the village councils a process that kicked off on June 2, 2025 and ending on June 10, 2025.

The party’s electoral chief, Toterebuka Bamwenda said they have decentralized the process by empowering Sub-County Chairpersons to endorse SIG candidates.

The party has thanked those who have completed their nomination forms and encourages other members to collect and submit their forms at their respective sub-counties before the June 10 deadline.

Addressing journalists at the party head offices, Toterebuka said they are concerned over the EC’s failure to share the SIG register with the party.

This, the party argues, opens the door to abuse, such as nominating individuals who fall outside the rightful categories, youths above the age of 29, non-elders, and individuals without disabilities claiming to be PWDs. According to the FDC, such actions undermine fair representation and deny genuine members of these groups the opportunity to lead.

The party is now demanding that the EC, under the leadership of Justice Simon Byabakama, fulfills its constitutional duty by immediately availing the required registers to FDC.

FDC has also called on SIG members to remain vigilant as elections approach, with polling dates as follows:

  • Village Older Persons Committees – June 16, 2025

  • Village Persons with Disabilities Committees – June 17, 2025

  • Village Youth Committees – June 19, 2025
