Police have launched investigations into the cause of a fire that gutted part of Midland Junior School in Bulindo Village, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, on Wednesday afternoon.
The blaze, which broke out at around 2:00pm, is reported to have started inside the girls’ dormitory used by Primary Six and Primary Seven pupils.
Although the source of the fire remains unknown, the incident left pupils counting losses after beds, personal belongings, and other property were destroyed.
Police deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire said officers from the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded swiftly to the scene and managed to contain the fire before it spread to other sections of the school.
He added that Scene of Crime officers examined the scene and recorded statements from witnesses as investigations into the cause of the blaze continue.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, providing relief despite the significant property damage.
Authorities say inquiries are continuing to establish what sparked the fire, with more details expected once investigations are completed.
