INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: As the world marks International Women’s Day, the Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, Professor Lawrence Muganga, has delivered a heartfelt message recognizing the invaluable role women play in society, families, and institutions.

In his International Women’s Day message, Professor Muganga described women as the foundation of communities and praised their selfless contributions to humanity. He emphasized that while the day offers an opportunity to celebrate women, their importance should be recognized every day of the year.

“It’s that time of the year when we remember the very important people in our lives, the women in our families, our country, and our world,” Muganga said. “But it’s not enough to simply remember them for a day.”

The Vice Chancellor reflected on his personal upbringing, acknowledging the influence of his late mother, whom he credited for shaping his character and values.

“Having been raised by an incredible mother, I believe her passion and spirit live in me today,” he said. “That is the power of a woman.”

Professor Muganga highlighted the vital role women play in nurturing and guiding society from raising children and supporting families to contributing to education, leadership, and national development. According to him, women are often the driving force behind many achievements in society.

“From the time when we are nothing to the time when we become something, women are there for us,” he noted.

“If you are a woman, a girl, a mother, or a grandmother, whatever you do, know that we appreciate you,” Muganga said. “You are our heroes. We cherish you, we love you, and we adore you.”

He added that society owes women constant respect and recognition for their sacrifices and dedication.

“You deserve respect all the time—24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” he said. “Thank you for living a selfless life.”

Professor Muganga extended warm International Women’s Day wishes to the women of Victoria University, women across Uganda, and women around the globe, encouraging continued appreciation of their strength, resilience, and leadership.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to recognize women’s achievements and promote gender equality worldwide. This year’s celebrations in Uganda include community events, discussions, and institutional messages highlighting the role of women in national development.
