Police have arrested Ivan Wafula Ivan, 34, the director of Earnest Nursery and Primary School in Kisugu Parish, Makindye Division, following a two-year investigation into forged Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results.
According to police spokesman for Kampala Metropolitan, in 2020, Wafula allegedly registered his P7 students for the PLE and took them to an unknown location in Busia District to sit for examinations that were falsely represented as official Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) exams.
After the exams, the children were returned to Kampala and handed back to their parents. It is alleged that Wafula later issued results and recommendations to the students, enabling them to enroll in various secondary schools.
The fraud came to light in 2024 when Ebenezer Secondary School requested the original PLE results to register the students for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).
Upon visiting Earnest Nursery and Primary School, the students were denied access to the original results and were advised to report the matter to police.
Investigations revealed that the exams the students had taken were not UNEB-sanctioned, and Nanyuma Primary School, where they were allegedly registered, had not received any such candidates.
Police retrieved forged results and recommendations, which UNEB later confirmed as fake.
Wafula Ivan, who had been evading authorities for the past two years, was finally apprehended yesterday. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
