Kyambogo University has officially dismissed the Guild President for organizing and leading a student protest, citing violations of university regulations.
In a letter dated July 3, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Elly Katunguka, announced that the decision was made following a disciplinary hearing conducted by the Students’ Affairs and Welfare Committee.
The Guild President was found guilty of three offenses: breaching the peace, mounting roadblocks, and insubordination, all in violation of various sections of the Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations (2003, as amended in 2016).
“After the hearing, the Students’ Affairs and Welfare Committee found that you breached peace, mounted roadblocks, and were insubordinate to university authorities,” Prof. Kanguka stated.
The matter was reviewed during the University Council’s 111th meeting held on June 27, 2025. The Council considered the Committee’s report and upheld its recommendation to dismiss the student under Regulation 37 (m) of the university regulations.
Prof. Kanguka emphasized that the University Council fully supported the decision, which was carried out under Regulation 41 of the Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations.
“This letter serves as official notification of your dismissal from Kyambogo University with immediate effect,” he wrote. “You are henceforth prohibited from participating in academic or extracurricular activities, accessing university facilities, or representing the Kyambogo University Students’ Guild or the University in any capacity.”
