The LC1 position is a very important one for this country. If you recall the remarks made by the National Chairman and President of the Republic of Uganda, the introduction of the Resistance Councils was intended to give ordinary citizens a voice and an opportunity to express their views on how they should be governed.
Initially, administrators were appointed by the central government to oversee local administration. However, with the introduction of democracy and decentralization, the National Resistance Movement established the Resistance Council system, through which leaders are elected from the villages to serve on village councils, parish councils, sub-county councils, district councils, and other elected positions, including Members of Parliament.
These leaders complement the efforts of the central government by ensuring that the people’s views and priorities are represented in governance.
Therefore, when electing an LC1 chairperson, remember that this is the lowest and most important level of leadership in the village. You should vote for someone who supports the NRM, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and the party’s policies. You should elect someone who is trustworthy, honest, committed to protecting your interests, and willing to work with you to develop your village.
This is a very important position, and we call upon all our members to mobilize on election day and vote for our flag bearers.
I am pleased to note that every village across Uganda already has NRM flag bearers who were elected after highly competitive contests. I congratulate all those who emerged victorious and are now our official flag bearers.
I believe that in the same spirit, our flag bearers will be elected as LC1 chairpersons on the 28th.
