KAMPALA, Uganda: The Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre (UMC), Allan Kasujja, has called on citizens to turn up in large numbers and participate in the upcoming Gen. MK @52 Birthday Run, scheduled for April 26, 2026.
Kasujja made the remarks during a press conference held at the Media Centre, where the event program was officially unveiled.
The Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations (CDF/SPA/SO), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, will serve as the chief runner at the event, which will take place at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Kasujja emphasized that the Uganda Media Centre remains committed to supporting initiatives that directly impact communities while promoting unity and cohesion across the country.
He noted that the birthday marathon is a non-partisan event, open to Ugandans of all political affiliations, reflecting Gen. Kainerugaba’s strong connection with the people.
This year’s run will be held under the theme “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” with proceeds aimed at supporting orphans.
Kasujja highlighted that the marathon symbolizes discipline, endurance, and resilience values deeply rooted in both the military and the General’s life. He added that Gen. Kainerugaba’s participation, whether walking or running, sends a powerful message of unity and national resilience.
He described the marathon as a celebration of Uganda’s resilience, warmth, and togetherness, and stressed the importance of ensuring a peaceful and successful event that showcases national unity and collective care.
Kasujja further noted that the initiative serves as a reminder to orphans and vulnerable communities that they are not forgotten and that opportunities exist for them to thrive.
He added that the event is inclusive and aims to bring together Ugandans from all walks of life.
Meanwhile, UPDF spokesperson Col. Chris Magezi described the run as an important civic engagement opportunity, appealing to young people in Kampala and surrounding areas as well as participants from across the country to take part.
Police spokesperson Kituma Rusoke also underscored the significance of the event, noting that large public gatherings require extensive planning to ensure the safety of both people and property. He assured the public of the Uganda Police Force’s readiness to provide adequate security.
Kasujja concluded by urging the public to use only official payment channels when making contributions, emphasizing the need to protect donations from fraud.
