KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – Khadija Nakakande has officially taken over as Principal Communications Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport, replacing Suzan Kataike, who has been transferred to the Judiciary.
The changes were effected by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr Amina Zawede, as part of the government’s ongoing deployment and strengthening of communication functions across ministries, departments and agencies.
Nakakande joins the Ministry of Works and Transport from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, where she served as a Senior Communications Officer, managing media relations, digital communication, public relations campaigns, stakeholder engagement, brand management and the ministry’s online platforms.
She brings extensive experience in government communication, public relations and journalism, having previously served as Head of Communication and Public Relations at the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) Secretariat.
Nakakande also previously served as a Senior Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, where she managed the ministry’s communication and public relations functions.
Her career in the media began at Capital Radio, where she worked as a news reporter and anchor for several years before moving into government communication.
Nakakande holds a Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Studies from Uganda Martyrs University and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Makerere University.
She is deputised by Emmanuel Ainebyona, who previously served in the Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has received Allan Sempebwa as part of the latest communication staff changes.
Sempebwa is described as an experienced, hands-on communications professional who successfully led communication at the former Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) before its dissolution and the integration of its functions into the Ministry of Works and Transport.
