Northern Bypass to undergo six months maintenance works
Motorists and other users of the Northern Bypass are advised to plan their journeys in advance to minimize disruptions during the extensive maintenance of the 21-kilometer stretch.
According to a statement issued by the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala, the project is set to commence on December 28, 2024, and will last for six months.
This initiative aims to enhance the long-term durability of the road. The bypass was built between 2004 and 2009, was officially opened to traffic in October 2009.
Katumba emphasized that the maintenance will focus on critical sections between the Kisaasi and Busega interchanges, which will involve the removal of old asphalt, reprocessing the road base, priming, and applying a new asphalt overlay.
Motorists are encouraged to consider alternative routes to reduce delays.
The Uganda Police Force will collaborate with the contractor, Stirling Civil Engineering, and the Ministry of Works and Transport to manage traffic diversions effectively.
To ensure safety and facilitate the maintenance work, certain sections of the affected carriageway will be completely closed around the clock, with traffic redirected to the opposite lanes.
Katumba urged road users to exercise caution and follow traffic safety guidelines to minimize inconvenience during the maintenance period.
