NAMUGONGO-Pilgrims from both Uganda and Tanzania today gathered at Uganda Martyrs Minor Basilica in Namugongo to honor Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the former president of republic of Tanzania, who is being considered for sainthood.
The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah represented H.E President Museveni during a holly Mass.
In his sermon, Fr Anthony from Tanzania who was the day’s main celebrant urged pilgrims to focus on bolstering their faith as a priority.
“The intercession prayers for the beatification and canonization process of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere is worth in memory of his selfless contribution to Uganda especially during the fight to Liberate the nation from the hands of non democratic regimes,” said President Museveni in his message delivered by the prime minister.

The prayer tradition was initiated after Pope Benedict XVI declared Nyerere a servant of God on May 13, 2005, marking the first step towards his beatification and canonization for sainthood.
