A major intelligence-led security operation in Arua City has resulted in the arrest of 22 suspected criminals as police intensify efforts to dismantle crime hotspots following growing public concern over robberies and theft.
The operation, conducted on June 30, 2026 involved officers from the Arua City Central Business Division working alongside local vigilantes.

The team targeted several areas identified as crime black spots, including Gurua, Osu, Hospital, Abia, Academy and Niva cells in Central Division.
“We conducted the intelligence-led disruptive operation following public outcry over robberies and theft of property in these black spot areas,” said SSP Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region Police spokesperson. “The operation led to the arrest of 22 male suspects and the recovery of suspected marijuana and housebreaking implements. We also uprooted illegally planted marijuana during the exercise.”

Police said all the suspects are being held at the Arua City Central Business Division pending the completion of investigations.

The recovered exhibits remain in police custody as detectives prepare case files for prosecution.
According to police, the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations and sanctioning of the case files to answer charges related to unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of housebreaking implements.
Angucia said similar operations will continue across Arua City as police seek to curb crime and create a safer environment for residents and businesses.

She also urged young people to shun criminal activities and instead pursue lawful income-generating ventures to improve their livelihoods.
