Police at Jinja Road are investigating a tragic incident of murder by shooting that occurred today, 30th January 2025, at approximately 0900 hours at Shumuk Aluminium Ltd, Nakawa Division.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, preliminary findings indicate that a security guard, Emmanuel Machugayi, attached to Ryayo Security Group Ltd, accessed a firearm from a colleague and, without provocation, fatally shot two fellow security guards: Ashiraf Kakyebezi (21 years old) and Stephen Owechi.
Following the attack, the suspect retreated and later turned the gun on himself after realizing he was surrounded by security forces.
He said upon receiving the report, the Jinja Road Police Division swiftly responded, deploying a team of officers to investigate the matter.
Three bodies were recovered and transported to Mulago KCCA Mortuary for postmortem examination.
The investigating team also recovered two rifles and several cartridges.
Eyewitness statements were recorded from the first responding security officers at the scene.
Owoyesigyire said the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation and further inquiries are ongoing.
He urged the public to remain calm as investigations into the matter unfold.
