Police probe Entebbe road crash that killed two Next Media staff

KAMPALA, Uganda — Police have launched an investigation into a fatal road crash along Entebbe Road that claimed the lives of two Next Media employees and left another colleague injured in the early hours of Friday.
The victims, identified as Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye, died at the scene after a collision at Namulanda near Stabex at about 2:00am. A third employee, Brian Makona, survived the crash and was rushed to hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.
The crash involved a Toyota Allex, registration number UA 779DE, and a Toyota Hilux, registration number UAS 976W, according to police.
Police spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety, Michael Kananura, said preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hilux, which was travelling from Entebbe towards Kampala, allegedly lost control and crossed into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the Toyota Allex.
“The exact circumstances and cause of the crash remain under investigation, and further details will be communicated once inquiries are concluded,” Kananura said.
Traffic officers have since begun examining the scene and gathering evidence to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly collision.
Next Media, the parent company of the victims, described the incident as a devastating loss and confirmed that Makona remains under medical care, with the company maintaining contact with the hospital over his condition.
“We remain in direct contact with the hospital and will share updates on his condition as they become available,” the company said in a statement.
The deaths have sent shockwaves through Uganda’s media industry, with colleagues mourning the loss of two members of the broadcasting community and rallying around the injured journalist.
Police have extended condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased, while investigations into the crash continue.
