Three lives have so far been confirmed to been tragically lost and several others critically injured following a fatal bus crash that occurred in Makindu Village along the Kisoga-Nyenga Road in Buikwe District, on the evening of May 5, 2025, at around 5:00 PM.
According to Michael Kananura, the Community Liaison Officer at the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the accident involved a Scania bus, registration number UAV 701C, operated by YY Company.
The ill-fated vehicle was en route from Katosi to Jinja when the driver reportedly lost control while navigating a section of the road near Makindu Village.
Eyewitness reports and preliminary police findings suggest that the bus veered off the road, overturned, and subsequently caught fire, resulting in the immediate deaths of three individuals whose identities have not yet been confirmed.
Dozens of injured passengers were rescued from the wreckage and rushed to Kawolo Hospital, St. Francis Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe, and other nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
Kananura emphasized that police and emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene, working tirelessly to extinguish the fire and recover the remains of those who perished. Rescue operations remain ongoing as authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage and injuries.
