A fatal road crash has claimed the life of a 41-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon in Mukono District after a motorcycle collided with a semi-trailer along the Jinja, Kampala Highway.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:50 PM in front of Brivena Guest House, directly opposite Collin Hotel at the Mbale taxi stage.
According to preliminary traffic police reports, the motorcycle, a red Bajaj Boxer registration number UDN 368R, was heading toward Kampala from Jinja when it crashed into the rear of a white HOWO Sino Truck semi-trailer bearing registration numbers UBR 801B/UBR 805B.
The motorcycle reportedly followed the truck too closely before ramming into it from behind.
The impact caused the rider to lose control, throwing both himself and his passenger under the rear left tires of the trailer.
The truck ran over the passenger, identified as Masembe Supriano Kabali, aged 41, killing him instantly.
The rider, Kayondo Ibrah, 37, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kawolo Hospital for emergency treatment.
Traffic police officers led by AIP Ngobi Solomon and Corporal Atero Immaculate responded to the scene, documenting the incident and initiating investigations.
The body of the deceased was transported to Kawolo Mortuary for postmortem, while both vehicles involved were towed to Mukono Police Yard pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (I.O.V).
The truck driver was immediately taken into custody as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Police have since reiterated the dangers of tailgating and called on all road users to maintain safe distances, especially along busy highways like the Jinja, Kampala route.
