Two youths are nursing wounds after they hot by assailants in an attempt confront them, as they tried to flee the scene after robbing from a parked vehicle.
The two are Peter Tumwesigye, 27 a boda boda rider, and Swabur Abdul, 18 years-old.
According to the preliminary police reports, two unidentified assailants riding a red Haojue motorcycle (registration number UGG 774A) attacked a stationary Toyota Premio (registration number UBE 079Z) which was parked outside N & M Unisex Salon.
The incident occurred on April 11, 2025, at approximately 6:20 PM in Lweza Cell A, Ndejje Division, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
In a statement issued by the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said the vehicle’s windows were shattered and two bags were stolen.
He noted that as the assailants attempted to flee the scene, the Tumwesigye and Abdul confronted them.
He said both individuals were shot and injured during the confrontation.
Owoyesigyire said the victims were immediately taken to Mildmay Hospital for medical attention; however, due to the severity of his condition, Abdul was later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further treatment.
However, he noted that a coordinated effort involving other boda boda riders, local residents, and police officers led to the successful pursuit and neutralization of one of the suspects.
The police also recovered an AK-47 rifle, the red Haojue motorcycle used by the suspects, a spent cartridge, a national identification card believed to belong to one of the assailants, two mobile phones, a red bag used to conceal the firearm, and a black bag containing a ring spanner, which belonged to the victim.
Owoyesigyire further stated that the owner of the shattered vehicle also recorded a statement, confirming that there was nothing of significant value in the stolen bags.
He said the Kajjansi Police Division has already launched an investigation into an aggravated robbery case, and are actively pursuing the second suspect, who remains at large.
“We commend the swift response of the community and boda boda riders,” Owoyesigyire said.
