In a strategic move to bolster national security during the upcoming 2026 general elections, the Uganda Police Force (UPF) has announced a nationwide recruitment drive for 100,000 Election Special Police Constables.
This initiative aims to enhance law enforcement capacity, ensure peaceful electoral processes, and promote community cooperation across Uganda.
According to Assistant Inspector General of Police Jesse Kamunanwire, speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, the selected officers will serve on a three-month contract, earning a monthly salary of shs469,000.
These temporary officers will be deployed in their respective districts of residence, a policy designed to foster trust and familiarity within local communities.
Kamunanwire emphasized that the recruitment targets disciplined, patriotic, and physically fit Ugandans who are ready to work extended hours, often under challenging conditions, to facilitate peaceful and transparent elections. “The exercise seeks individuals committed to national service,” he said. “Applicants must be Ugandan citizens with valid national identity cards, registered voters, and of good conduct with no criminal record.”
Prospective candidates should have at least a Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) certificate, with prior voluntary service experience with the UPF viewed as an advantage. All recruits will undergo a one-month basic security training before deployment.
The police force has also committed to promoting gender inclusivity, encouraging women to apply as part of its drive toward gender balance in national service. Importantly, the recruitment excludes individuals already serving in Uganda’s armed forces.
Interested applicants are instructed to submit handwritten applications addressed to the Inspector General of Police, along with photocopies of academic certificates, national IDs, passport-sized photographs, and recommendation letters from local authorities such as LC 1, LC III, and GISO. All applications must be delivered to the nearest Police District or Divisional Headquarters by November 1, 2025.
The police have issued a stern warning against impersonation and submitting forged documents, which will result in arrest and prosecution. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews, with dates to be announced in due course.
In an effort to safeguard applicants, police recently apprehended a suspect in Kyotera District, who was impersonating a police officer and charging applicants 50,000 shillings per application. The suspect, identified as Amwine Mike, was detained after police recovered exhibits from his possession.
