Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has announced that Uganda has risen to 6th place—up from 7th—in the 2024 International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings for the Africa region. With 19 international association meetings hosted, this progress reflects Uganda’s growing stature as a prime destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) in Africa.
Kampala City also made notable progress, moving up one spot to 4th place among African cities, demonstrating the capital’s increasing appeal and capacity for hosting large-scale international events.
The ICCA is a globally respected authority on international association meetings, ranking destinations based on the number of rotating association meetings held across at least three countries. These rankings are a key benchmark for measuring a destination’s competitiveness and reliability in the global MICE industry.
Commenting on the milestone, UTB CEO Juliana Kagwa said: “Securing a higher position in the ICCA rankings enhances Uganda’s global reputation and reaffirms our capacity to host world-class events. It attracts more business opportunities, strengthens international collaboration, and contributes significantly to our economic growth. We thank all our partners and venues for their crucial input during the recent MICE sector performance survey.”
As a member of ICCA, the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence, and the Union of International Associations, the Uganda Convention Bureau (UCB) operates according to global standards. It provides comprehensive support including bid preparation, destination expertise, event planning, and on-site services to both local and international clients.
Through strategic partnerships, capacity building, and the operational development of the Bureau, Uganda has positioned itself as a serious contender in Africa’s MICE market. UCB remains focused on achieving its goal of placing Uganda among the top five MICE destinations on the continent.
Uganda’s advancement in the 2024 ICCA rankings is a clear indicator of its commitment to excellence and long-term investment in the MICE sector. The Uganda Convention Bureau will continue working to boost the country’s global competitiveness and contribute meaningfully to national economic development.
