Members of Parliament have collectively offered their prayers and best wishes to the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis who  has been hospitalised for the past 12 days.

The Speaker Anita among led the House in praying for the Pope during the plenary sitting on Wednesday, 26 February 2025.

“The Pope is reportedly suffering from pneumonia. We join the millions of believers out there to pray for his speedy recovery,” she said.

“On behalf of the Parliament of Uganda and on my own behalf, we join the global Catholic fraternity and all people of goodwill in extending our heartfelt get-well wishes to the Holy Father. May the Lord heal Pope Francis,” she added.

Bukonjo County West MP, Atkins Katusabe noted that as a devout Catholic, he is also praying for the Holy Father’s quick recovery.

Buhweju County MP, Francis Mwijukye revealed that he is one of the few Ugandans who have interacted with Pope Francis and is praying for his healing.

“We pray for the continued grace of God’s mercy, comfort and healing and above all, that he continues to guide and give us hope around the world,” he said.

Lawrence Biyika (NRM, Ora County, Zombo) recognised the Pope for his role in environmental conservation.

“The Holy Father has championed environmental protection throughout his papacy and continues to promote it through his encyclical letters, Laudato Si’,” he said.

Meanwhile, media reports indicate that Pope Francis, who is battling double pneumonia, remains in critical condition  but is stable and has not experienced further respiratory crises.

The 88-year-old Pontiff is currently spending his 12th night at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, marking the longest hospitalisation of his papacy.
