Police in Kampala North have taken into custody Nanteza Aisha, 34, following allegations that she staged her own kidnapping, authorities confirmed.
According to a statement issued by the Wamala Region police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, the case was first reported on 15th December 2025 by Nanteza’s mother, Nakanwagi Rose, a resident of Kasana in Luwero District, after her daughter failed to reach her intended destination. Immediate search and investigative efforts were launched.
Preliminary findings reveal that on 12th December 2025, at approximately 4:00 PM, Nanteza informed her mother that she would be traveling from Katooke, Nabweru, in Wakiso District, to her mother’s home in Luwero District by 6:00pm. But she never arrived.
The following day, the victim’s sister received a WhatsApp video showing Nanteza appearing to be restrained in a bush, with her hands, legs, and mouth bound. A voice in the background demanded a ransom of UGX 50 million (approximately USD 13,500).
“Following intensive investigations and an exhaustive search, a Police task team arrested the suspect at Kigombe, Luwero District,” Kawala said.
She said Nanteza is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face the relevant charges.
She condemned the alleged act, which they said caused unnecessary panic and fear among the public.
Kawala emphasized the importance of responsible behavior, noting that such actions can divert law enforcement resources and create public alarm.
