Engineer Mariam Namiya, the managing director, Reenboog Construction services limited has urged young women to embrace the construction sector, emphasising that it has a lot of opportunities for women to earn big.
According to a report by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), women make up only 13% of the construction workforce in Uganda. The report further notes that women in the construction industry are more likely to work in non-technical roles, with limited opportunities for careers.
In her New Year’s message, Engineer Namiya noted that women should not get scared of the construction sector, working on bigger projects like buildings, road construction, designing, and building trenches, among others.
She said, “Young girls who completed senior four and six should also consider taking up courses in the construction sector. She believes women in the construction sector would make a difference that benefits them and, at the same time, transform the economy.
“I have spent a decade in the construction sector, and I believe any other woman would do the same service or beyond in this sector.” She noted.
